In my design for "Solea," I wanted to pay homage to the rich heritage and culture of Spain, and more specifically to one of its most iconic and influential art forms, Flamenco.Ā I was particularly moved by thisĀ due to my personal longing for the dancefloor ā€“ I used to dance flamenco at the ā€œRemangarā€ school with my mother for several years.Ā
The intricate designs, unique textures, and bold patterns of Flamenco dresses were truly mesmerizing.Ā I drew inspiration from the construction and interpretation that Balenciaga gave to the folds in the flamenco dress, which added a beautiful and dramatic element to the costume, while also referring to theĀ "Sola" dance, which is a solo performance that showcases the skill and artistry of the dancer. I used cuts that were sewn in rotation, valances, and the color black to create a sense of drama and movement in my design.Ā
Overall, my design for "Solea" is a celebration of the beauty, passion, and creativity of Flamenco. It is a testament to the power of art to inspire and move us, and a reflection of my own personal journey as a dancer and designer.
